A woman was charged Thursday morning with voluntary manslaughter in Roanoke Rapids.
According to a press release from Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Bobby Martin, at approximately 1:05 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Madison Street regarding a male subject who was shot in the upper chest area. When officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Robert Jenkins lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to his upper chest. Jenkins was pronounced deceased at the scene. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Jenkins was shot by his girlfriend, 22-year-old Emoni Alston, who also lived with Jenkins in the 300 block of Madison Street. Alston was charged with voluntary manslaughter and placed into the Halifax County Jail under a $20,000 bond with a court date of May 26.
