On Oct. 27, deputies with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into a breaking and entering of an Enfield business in which a safe was stolen with an undisclosed amount of money.

The investigation led to another attempted break-in of another Enfield business, according to a press release from Chief Deputy Scott Hall. Detective R.M. Brown, along with Rocky Mount Police Department, Wilson Police Department, Louisburg Police Department and Zebulon Police Department, were able to work as a team and found that the suspects committed similar crimes in their respective jurisdictions.

All the agencies worked together to apprehend Anthony Tyrone Batts Jr., 26, Tyrone Batts, 25, Malik Spells, 26, and Demetric Ward, 24, all of Wilson. larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods and attempted breaking and entering. Batts Jr., Batts and Ward received a $5,000 bond, while Spells received a $50,000 bond. All four men await a Jan. 27 court date.

Spells at the time of the breaking and entering was on federal probation.
