ROANOKE RAPIDS — Agents of the sheriff’s office received information that marijuana was being kept in a room at a hotel near Interstate 95 and N.C. Highway 125. Agent D.K. Newsome followed up on the information. During Newsome’s investigation a search warrant was applied for and granted for the room.

During the execution of the warrant, agents collected approximately 283 grams of marijuana, containers of coffee grounds, rolls of plastic, a vacuum sealer with bags and black electrical tape. Agents also collected correctional officer uniforms and other correctional center documentation. It appeared the female had been staying in this hotel room for some time. With the evidence collected, agents made contact with the correctional center in Virginia, and spoke with an investigator about the items that were seized inside the hotel room.

It appeared to agents that Brooklyn Fields, 25, of Gaston, had packaged marijuana in plastic bags, wrapped the marijuana packages surrounded with coffee grounds, vacuumed sealed it then wrapped them with black electrical tape to possibly take into the correctional center. Agents have been working closely with the correctional investigators. Since HCSO’s initial contact with investigators on Friday, Fields has not been allowed on the correctional center’s property.

On Wednesday, Newsome obtained warrants for the arrest of Fields for felony possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to sell/deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for a controlled substance. Agents encourage Fields to surrender to law enforcement.
