From the Roanoke Rapids Police Department:

Tuesday

• At approximately 5:04 p.m., Narcotics Investigator C. Batchelor conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of West Fifth Street and the Store Next Door for a window tint violation. During the traffic stop, Officer J. DeSare and his K-9 partner Borys assisted with a free air sniff of the vehicle indicating there was the potential for narcotics in the vehicle. Upon a search of the vehicle, four Klonopin pills were located wrapped in cellophane plastic in a cigarette pack. The officers also discovered two firearms, a 9mm handgun and a 22 cal. rifle.

The weapons were seized and secured by the officers. The suspect was identified as Adam Vernava, 27, from the Roanoke Rapids area. He was cited for possession of Schedule IV, carrying a concealed weapon, was cited and released.

• At approximately 12:55 a.m., Sgt. M. Hunsucker responded to the area of Chaloner Drive and Sunset Avenue in regard to an attempted breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. The officers were responding in regard to a call that came in reporting a subject in the area pulling on car doors trying to gain entry. Once officers arrived in the area, Officer N. Powell notified other officers she had a subject on a bike who would not stop for her. The subject then jumped off the bike and ran from officers. The subject was eventually caught and several items were recovered from him that were consistent with larcenies from vehicles. The officers also discovered an additional car was broken into as well.

The suspect was identified as Tajiri Lee, 36, from the Roanoke Rapids area. He was charged with felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. A court date nor a bond was available at this time. Lee was placed in the Halifax County Detention Center.
