Shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, Agent A.D. Cash of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Narcotic Division conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Roanoke Avenue near Birdsong Street in Roanoke Rapids for a motor vehicle violation.
During the encounter with the driver, identified to be Jamazia Shyheim Tillery, 21, of Roanoke Avenue, Cash could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, according to a press release from Capt. Anzell M. Harris.
During the search, with the assistance of Agent B.J. Murphy, approximately 48 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and a handgun were seized.
Cash arrested and charged Tillery with felony possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed gun, expired registration number plate and possession of firearm by felon.
Tillery was given a $4,000 bond and a Dec. 16 court date.
