PACE Officer J. DeSare with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department was patrolling the area of Smith Church Road and Highway 125 on Tuesday when he spotted a vehicle with illegal window tint.

Desare conducted a traffic stop, making contact with the driver, Dominik Harrison, 31, of Roanoke Rapids, according to a press release from Capt. Bobby Martin. Desare deployed his K-9 partner Borys, who gave a positive indication for the odor of narcotics. When asked to step out of the vehicle, Harrison refused and began resisting officers on scene. Harrison was placed in handcuffs and a search of the vehicle was conducted.

The following was discovered: a 40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun with a laser attached, 26 grams of marijuana packaged for sale, digital scales and U.S. currency consisting of mainly small denomination bills, which is consistent with drug sales. Harrison was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, aggravated possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, carrying a concealed gun, and resist/delay/obstruct. Harrison was placed under an $8,000 bond and received a Feb. 3 court date.

Agent B. Council and Patrol Officer C. Walker assisted on the traffic stop.
