On Wednesday, Narcotics Agent B. Council with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department was patrolling the area of W. Fifth Street when he noticed a vehicle commit a stop light violation.

Council attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle continued on leading Council on a vehicle chase, according to Chief Bobby Martin. The chase went from the intersection of Fifth and Jackson streets through various residential areas and business parking lots, finally pulling over on Highway 48 prior to reaching the Gaston Bridge.

Council arrested and charged Jalen Garner of Gaston. He was charged with felony flee and elude, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia. possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a revoked driver’s license, failure to heed to blue lights and sirens, failure to stop at a stop sign, and failure to stop at a red light. Garner was also served with multiple pending Orders for Arrest for communicating threats and injury to personal property from Northampton County. He was committed to the Halifax County Jail under a $7,000 secured bond and given a March 3 court date.
