On Thursday, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office received a report of fraud that had occurred in the Everett’s School Road area of Roanoke Rapids.
The victim had noticed fraudulent charges to their bank account, as well as checks that had been cashed without their permission, according to a press release from Chief Deputy Scott Hall. The perpetrator had used the victim’s debit card information and linked it to his Cash App account, as well as stole six checks and forged the victim’s signature.
Through the investigation by Detective R.B. Biggerstaff, warrants were obtained on Brandon Lee Boyd, 45, of Roanoke Rapids. Boyd was arrested on Saturday with the assistance of Halifax County Sheriff’s Office D. Squad and charged with obtaining property by false pretense, identity fraud, six counts of forgery of instrument and six counts uttering forged instruments.
Boyd received a $10,000 bond and has a first court appearance scheduled for Sept. 15.
