At approximately 6:30 a.m. Friday, Officer C. Roberts with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department responded to the area of the 800 block of Park Avenue in regard to a stolen pick-up truck.
Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the victim in regard to the vehicle. Upon further investigation, it was learned the vehicle was in Emporia, Virginia, according to a press release from Chief Bobby Martin. RRPD officers made contact with the police department in Emporia and officers went to the area of the pick-up truck. Upon arriving where the truck was, a suspect attempted to flee on foot from the officers. After a short foot chase, the suspect was apprehended without any further incident.
The suspect was identified as Thomas Evans IV, 24, from the Henrico area. The Emporia PD charged the subject with possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Officer Roberts obtained warrants on Evans for felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and felony larceny of a motor vehicle. The RRPD continues to investigate several other incidents that Evans may be involved in and further charges may be obtained.
