At about 1 a.m. Wednesday, Detective Batchelor with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department conducted a traffic stop for an equipment violation.
Upon interaction with the driver, Datrick Simmons, a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, according to a press release from Chief Bobby Martin. Officers located an Anderson Manufacturing AR-15 rifle, a set of scales and a number of Lortab pills. The firearm located inside the vehicle was reported stolen and Simmons is a convicted felon.
Simmons was charged with possession of a firearm by convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of Schedule II. He was given a $2,500 bond and an Oct. 6 court date in Halifax County. Officer J. Melvin assisted.
