The Roanoke Rapids Police Department responded to East 10th Street near Becker Drive on Friday in regard to a motor vehicle collision.
Upon arriving on scene, Officer S. Langley discovered two vehicles involved in the collision, according to a press release from Chief Bobby Martin. One of the vehicles was trying to make a left-hand turn into Big Time Pawn when the second vehicle traveling east merged into the same lane colliding head on with the vehicle making the turn.
The vehicle traveling east had two occupants and one of them was injured and needed to be transported to Vidant North, where she was later transferred to Greenville due to her injuries. There were no other reports of severe injuries.
Officers during their investigation into the collision made contact with the driver of the vehicle heading east, who was identified as Glen Patterson, 56, from the Roanoke Rapids area, and immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the subject. Officers continued to clear the roadway and investigate the collision. Through further investigation, Patterson was taken into custody for suspicion of driving while impaired after their roadside investigation. Patterson was carried before a magistrate and charged with driving while impaired and placed under a $1,000 bond with a Dec. 10 court date.
