At around 2 p.m. Friday, deputies with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on N.C. Highway 48 just outside of Roanoke Rapids in reference to a subject who had been shot.
Once on scene, investigators learned that Katoe Harris Jr., 22, of Roanoke Rapids, had been shot and sustained nonlife-threatening injuries, according to a press release from Chief Deputy Scott Hall.
Detective Matt Brown learned the incident was the result of a domestic assault when the female was believed to be defending herself.
Harris was treated and released from Vidant North Hospital after the incident.
Brown secured warrants for arrest on Harris for assault on a female. During the investigation, a search warrant was served on the residence by Agent B.J. Murphy, where he along with detectives seized 15.6 grams of fentanyl, 3 grams of meth, 4.9 grams of cocaine and 3.5 grams of marijuana. Additional charges may follow as the result of the search warrant.
