At about 1 p.m. Wednesday, Chaundler Robert Lashley, 29, of New York, was arrested in New York by task force officers of the New York Police Department and United States Marshal Services with the assistance of the NCSBI fugitive task force.
Lashley was wanted for the death of Willie Carl Clements, 58, of Garysburg. Clements was found deceased in a home on Jan. 5 after firefighters from Rheasville Fire Department responded to a house fire on Nation Road, according to a press release from Chief Deputy Scott Hall.
According to a previous story, fire personnel reported, upon entry of the home, firefighters located a pot on the stove that had been overheated and caused heavy smoke throughout the home. After the smoke cleared, firefighters discovered Clements. Detectives with the sheriff’s office investigating the incident identified Clements, who was deceased from an apparent gunshot wound inside the home. Early indication leads detectives to believe the pot left on the stovetop was intentionally done in an attempt to conceal the death of Clements.
Lashley awaits extradition back to North Carolina.
