On Friday, at about 7 p.m., deputies with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Family Dollar in Essex, regarding an armed robbery.

Once on scene deputies learned the suspect, described as a light-skinned male, entered the store brandishing a long gun, according to a press release. The male demanded money and fled the store on foot, once the register was not allowed to be opened. No money was taken during the robbery attempt.

Lt. Steven Casey and K-9 Torro tracked the suspect a short distance down Evans Road where the track ended. An investigation by Detective Travis Clark led to warrants for arrest being issued on Rodney Lynch, 44, of Enfield, for armed robbery and possession of a firearm by felon.

The investigation continues with more arrests pending.

Anyone with information on Lynch’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the HCSO at 252-583-8201, or Halifax County Crime Stoppers at 252-583-4444.
