At about 11:01 p.m. Tuesday, Officer J. DeSare with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department was stationary near East 10th Street and Carolina Avenue, when he noticed a vehicle go by his location, and three shots were fired from the vehicle.
DeSare conducted a traffic stop to investigate the vehicle and its occupants, according to a press release from Chief Bobby Martin. Upon approach of the vehicle, DeSare made contact with the driver and the passenger. Officers Majette and Horne arrived to assist with the call in regard to shots being fired from the vehicle.
Upon further investigation it was learned the passenger in the car had an outstanding order for arrest for a probation violation. The passenger was identified as Sean Lucas, 38, from the Asheville area. During a search of the vehicle a handgun, marijuana, scales, unspent ammunition and fired casings were located in the vehicle.
Lucas was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of schedule VI and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He was given a $25,000 bond and a trial date of April 16 for the police department charges.
