At about 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Cpl. S. McKimmey with the Weldon Police Department was dispatched to an alarm call to a business in the zero block of West Third Street. Upon Cpl. McKimmey’s arrival, he noticed the side door glass was shattered, but in tact, and there was a cinder block near the door.
During Cpl. McKimmey’s investigation he was able to determine that Alfred Short, 43, of Weldon, was the one who damaged the window at this business. According to a press release from Chief Christopher Davis, officers were unable to locate Short on that date. Cpl. McKimmey obtained a warrant on him for attempted breaking and entering and injury to real property. Cpl. McKimmey was assisted by Officer I. Smith.
At about 7:15 p.m. Monday, Cpl. McKimmey was able to locate Short in the area of West Third and Chestnut streets. Short was placed under arrest and taken before a Halifax County Magistrate. He received a $2,000 unsecured bond and an Oct. 27 court date.
