At about 1:39 p.m. Friday, Jada Jermaine Ausby, 21, of Weldon, was arrested by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office after warrants were obtained for first degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling.

The warrants were issued by Sgt. T. Mason with the Weldon Police Department, according to a press release from Chief Christopher Davis. These charges stem from the April 27, 2019, murder of Derrick Lamont Shearin at 109 East 7th St.

Ausby was arrested and placed in the Halifax County Jail with no bond and received an Oct. 13 court date.

“I would like to thank the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, Halifax County Probation Office, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and all the officers here at Weldon Police Department, along with the Shearin family, who helped with this investigation,” said Chief Davis. “This case is still being further investigated at this time and more details will be released when they are available.”
