It may still be summer, but returning to school for students and teachers is only a month away.
Halifax County Schools staff will meet for convocation at 8 a.m. Aug. 19 at William R. Davie Middle School to kick off and gather information about the new school year. Their students will return for class on Aug. 21.
Teachers at Roanoke Rapids Graded School District and Northampton County Schools will return Aug. 18. Students at those two districts will begin classes on Aug. 25, school officials said. At Weldon City Schools, teachers will return on Aug. 20 and students on Aug. 25.
Roanoke Valley Early College teachers will return earliest of all on Aug. 4, and students will begin attending classes on Aug. 6.
And at Halifax Community College, registration for classes continues. New student orientation will be Aug. 11. Teachers will return Aug. 4 and have an informational convocation Aug. 5, and students will return on Aug. 18.
Parents should contact their children’s schools for a list of items necessary when they return to classes.
Some changes have occurred during the summer months. Monica Smith-Woofter was sworn in as superintendent at Northampton County Schools, and Terrell Rutledge Jones was hired as the new Belmont Elementary principal in Roanoke Rapids. She began her duties at the beginning of July.
Former Chaloner Middle School assistant principal Jeff White also was named principal of that school, and former Chaloner principal Tom Davis has become the district’s Student Support Services Director and athletic director at Roanoke Rapids High School.
