ROANOKE RAPIDS — Mr. Basil Purnell Robinson, 77, of Roanoke Rapids, departed this life Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at Vidant North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids.

He retired after many years of employment from Chockoyotte Country Club in Weldon.

He is survived by his wife, Joann R. Robinson of the home; children, Bonita R. Watson of Roanoke Rapids, Karen Robinson of Rocky Mount and Stanley Robinson of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Chanta Robinson, Christopher Hunter, Yerel Robinson, Kiara Bell, Ashley Bell and Jaylin Robinson; great-grandchildren, Dylann, Kemaya, Neveah, Kaydence, Komba, Kaden and Jaylin Jr.; godchildren, Sharon Alston and Angie Arrington; siblings, Raymond Robinson (Shirley), Earl Robinson (Janice) and Shyrl Robinson; two generations of nieces and nephews; the Reid in-laws; a host of cousins, other relatives and many friends.

A public walk-through viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Cofield Mortuary in Weldon, which is handling the arrangements.

A graveside celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Weldon.

Because of COVID-19, the funeral home staff will follow CDC guidelines by limiting the number of attendees for all services. Masks and/or facial coverings are required for the safety and protection of everyone in attendance.
