GARYSBURG — Devona Lashley-Peterson was a devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend to many in need.

Devona was born on July 30, 1976, in Northampton County, to Calvert and Frances Lashley Watson.

She departed her earthly life on Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, with family and friends by her side.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her children, Joseph Peterson Jr., a student at NC A&T State University in Greensboro, and Ajayla Peterson of the home; her parents, Calvert and Karen Watson, and her brother, Tremayne D. Lashley, all of Garysburg. Devona also had two children that she helped to nurture as her own, Tashandelyn and Kymani Lashley; and a host of other relatives and many friends.

A public walk-through viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 at Cofield Mortuary in Weldon, which is handling the arrangements.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15 on the grounds of the Mudcastle Family Life Center in Garysburg, with the Rev. Dr. Franklin D. Williams Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Roanoke Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Garysburg.

Because of COVID-19, we will continue to adhere to CDC guidelines, restrictions and mandates by monitoring the number of attendees for all services and viewings. At all times, masks are required and social distancing is practiced.
