LITTLETON — Mrs. Marie Hargrove Hawkins, 89, of Littleton, transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, in the comfort of her home.
Marie, daughter of the late Rev. David Hargrove and Mable Williams Hargrove, was born Jan. 14, 1931, in Granville County.
She graduated from Henderson Institute on June 3, 1949.
She was united in holy matrimony to John Wesley Hawkins and their union was blessed with two sons.
After marriage, she became a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Halifax, and was very faithful and dedicated to many auxiliaries and positions at the church.
Treasuring her memories are her sons, Kenneth Ray Hawkins of Greensboro and Tony D. Hawkins (Ruby) of Raleigh; three granddaughters, Kimberly Miller (Will) of Whitsett, Stephanie Abdi (Karim) of Charlotte and Crystal Hawkins of Raleigh; three great-grandchildren, Kayla and Khaliyah Miller and Kamil Abdi; brother-in-law, Winfred Hawkins of Newport News, Virginia; special angels, Magnolia Jones, Leon and Gerlie Alston, Clintonia Powell-Joyner, Thelma Harris and Tonia Goddard; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
A public walk-through viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9 at Cofield Mortuary in Weldon, which is handling the arrangements.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Big Ruin Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 16 Big Ruin Creek Lane in Henderson, with the Rev. Charles W. Burwell officiating.
Because of COVID-19, we will follow CDC guidelines by limiting the number of attendees for all services. For viewings, only five persons will be allowed in the funeral home at one time. Masks and/or facial coverings are required for the protection and safety of everyone in attendance.
