LITTLETON — Mary Elizabeth Hux Simmons, 93, of Lake Shores, Littleton, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, at her home at Lake Gaston.

Mary Elizabeth was born Nov. 30, 1927, in Beaufort County, to Louis Pender Hux and Mary Lee Hux. She retired from the Halifax County Register of Deeds office after 33 years of service. She was a lifelong Methodist and was a member of the Ebenezer, Halifax and Calvary United Methodist Churches throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Percy Harris; and her husband of 62 years, F. Coleman Simmons; brother, Willie Lenwood “Bill” Hux; and brother-in-law, Charles Nelson “Poochie” Fitts.

She is survived by her sister, Julia Ann Hux Fitts; sister-in-law, Erma Powell Hux; niece, Velna Hux, all of Roanoke Rapids; niece, Muzette Fitts Kiger and her husband, Jack, and their daughter, Mary Braswell Kiger, of Weldon; nephew, Christopher Taylor Fitts and wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Peterson Fitts, and their sons, William Jacob White and Joseph Zachery White of the Darlington Community; and her special caregivers, Gloria Evans and Clara Harvey.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 at the Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery, 136 Calvary Church Road in Littleton. The Rev. Stan Lewis and the Rev. Stan Smith officiated. The family received friends and served lunch following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Calvary Church Cemetery Association, Tommy Myrick, 67 Calvary Church Road, Littleton, NC 27850.
