NEA hoops slate reconfigured

LASKER — The Northeast Academy women’s basketball program, which has seen the first two games of its regular season nixed due to complications associated with COVID-19, formally amended its 2020-2021 basketball schedule on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles will now begin play on Jan. 5 at Terra Ceia.

Assuming no further virus-related issues, Big Red will compete in a total of 12 games this winter, 10 of which will be held in a gauntlet-styled January spanning 632 round-trip miles.

The Eagles conclude the slate on Feb. 5 at Ridgecroft before competing in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Tar Heel Independent Conference Tournament — an event yet to be finalized.

NEA, which returns seven players from last year’s 14-4 roster, should once more contend for a league title.
