WINDSOR — Zy’Lee Bazemore finished with 16 points on Tuesday to lift Bertie over Northampton County 53-49 in fourth-round play of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A playoffs.

The No. 1-seed Falcons, now 26-4, face Wilson Prep on Saturday for the East Region crown.

Northampton was paced by sophomore Jiyoun Williams, who went for 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals, in addition to Antron Gray, who yielded a line of 11 points and three assists.

Jamari Blake and Vernell Edwards completed the Jaguar ledger, finishing with 10 points apiece.

Northampton wrapped the 2022-2023 campaign with a 19-7 overall record.

Women’s Soccer

Buzz City wins opener

CREEDMOOR — Casey Neal scored five goals on Tuesday as Roanoke Rapids opened the spring season with an 8-6 victory over non-conference host South Granville.

Skyler Wade also factored in the triumph, scoring two goals, while Kara Baird connected on her fourth career one-timer.

Avery Qualls finished with two assists.

RRHS (1-0) returns to the pitch on Monday at Granville Central, while South Granville (0-1) welcomes Franklinton this evening.
