Postseason news and notes
CHAPEL HILL — The N.C. High School Athletic Association continued its spring due diligence on Friday, publishing brackets across a quartet of classifications for the women’s soccer championships, which begin on Monday at higher seeds across the state.
Roanoke Rapids (17-2-1), competing on the 2A level, earned the East Region’s No. 5 seed and will open the bash against South Columbus (10-7-3).
As of the Herald’s weekend deadline, a start time for the match had not been finalized.
Also, stay tuned this weekend for updates from the 1A/2A softball playoffs, featuring Weldon and Roanoke Rapids, in addition to track and field results from the 1A/2A East Regionals, staged on Friday at Pamlico County and Franklinton, respectively.
Lastly, we’ll have scoring as it becomes available from the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1A baseball tournament, including the latest on Northeast Academy and Halifax Academy.
State 2A starting times released
Big East 2A/3A Player of the Year Wyatt Beaver will begin his NCHSAA 2A state title quest on Monday at Longleaf Golf and Family Club in Southern Pines.
The junior, paired with Jarin Abrams of Southwest Edgecombe and Will Sutton of James Kenan, will start the tournament on the 10th tee at 10:10 a.m.
Yellow Jackets rally, win 11th straight
ROCKY MOUNT — Roanoke Rapids overcame a halftime deficit on Thursday to post a 4-2 victory over Big East 2A/3A host Nash Central.
The Jackets closed the regular season on quite a roll, capturing 11 straight wins dating to April 3.
Nash Central closed the spring with an 11-6-1 (8-6 Big East) mark.
