Firebirds turn back Yellow Jackets

Coleman Neal and Doug Merritt each scored goals on Thursday, but it wasn’t enough to help Roanoke Rapids solve a 5-2 riddle posed by Big East 2A/3A guest Southern Nash.

The Firebirds (9-2-1, 4-0 Big East) return to the pitch on Monday versus Rocky Mount, while RRHS (5-2, 1-2 Big East) entertains Louisburg.


Jackets sweep league rival

Roanoke Rapids made light work of Big East 2A/3A rival Bunn on Thursday, cruising to a 25-16, 25-14, 26-24 triumph.

Buzz City, now 5-1 overall this season and 4-1 in league play, returns to work on Monday at Louisburg.

Bunn (6-2, 4-2 Big East) is idle until Tuesday evening, when it opens its home-and-home series with the Warriors.

Orange Crush outlasts Pride

LEGGETT — North Edgecombe survived a four-set affair on Thursday against Tar Roanoke 1A guest KIPP Pride, booking a 25-16, 16-25, 25-14, 26-24 victory.

The Warriors (6-1, 6-1 Tar Roanoke) are idle until a Thursday matchup against Weldon, while the Pride (6-2, 5-2 Tar Roanoke) skipped to Henderson Collegiate on Friday.



Yellow Jackets collect league triumph

Coleman Neal scored two goals on Wednesday as Roanoke Rapids sped past Big East 2A/3A guest Rocky Mount, 3-nil.

Balmoris Gonzalez also factored prominently in the shutout, pairing a goal with his fourth assist of the season, while Hunter Sparks and Hunt Qualls each landed in the Jax assist column.

Qualls also starred between the rails, stopping 23 Gryphon shots in 80 minutes of action.
