GREENSBORO — A trio of Roanoke Rapids soccer players enjoyed quite the party on Saturday, as the N.C. Soccer Coaches Association celebrated its 2021-2022 All-State assembly.
Cameron Neal and Kamdyn Jean, key fixtures on the volume-scoring RRHS women’s team, were cited for their 2A public school dominance, while Coleman Neal — who finished his career on Hamilton Street with 65 goals and 25 assists — was recognized for his play during the fall season.
The ceremony was conducted at Grimsley High School.
Jackets buzz Pack camp
RALEIGH — Roanoke Rapids varsity football coach Chris Lyons and three of his top performers also hit the road to conclude last week, appearing at the N.C. State team camp on Friday.
And what a day it was, as seniors-to-be Austin Geary, Matthew MacNichol and lineman Hayden Garner had the opportunity to participate in drills and receive feedback from visiting coaches, in addition to going on a tour of the Pack’s facilities.
“All three had a good day,” Lyons said of the group, which has paved the way for 12 wins and a league championship the past two seasons. “I don’t know if they’re gonna pull the trigger on our guys, but there is interest there.”
Roanoke Rapids begins its 2022 campaign on Aug. 19 versus Northampton County.
