Per Roanoke Rapids High School Athletic Hall of Fame committee member Randy Wrenn, the school's annual induction gala — slated for this weekend — has been postponed because of COVID-19 concerns.

RRHS Hall postpones celebration

Citing concerns associated with the continued reach of COVID-19, the Roanoke Rapids Athletic Hall of Fame Committee announced on Monday its decision to postpone this weekend’s traditional festivities.

As of this writing, a makeup date has not been finalized.


Warriors pull away from KIPP Pride

LOUISBURG — Fueled by a dominant second half on Monday, Louisburg waltzed to a 37-14 victory over KIPP Pride.

The Warriors (3-0) entertain tradition-rich Princeton on Friday, while KIPP (0-2) begins Tar Roanoke 1A play at North Edgecombe.


Buzz City earns road victory

ROCKY MOUNT — Coleman Neal scored five goals on Monday to lead Roanoke Rapids past Northern Nash, 6-4, in a matchup of Big East 2A/3A teams.

The Yellow Jackets now stand 4-1 overall this season, and 1-1 in matters of league consequence.

Balmoris Gonzalez also ripped a one-timer for the Jackets, while Jacob Edenbeck, Hunter Sparks and Hunt Qualls provided assists.

RRHS returns the pitch on Wednesday at home versus Rocky Mount, while Northern Nash (1-3, 0-1 Big East) travels to Nash Central.


WCA wins in straight sets

Wilson Christian Academy made light work of non-conference opponent Halifax Academy on Monday, filing 25-9, 25-8, 25-14 victory.

The triumph moved WCA to 7-2 this season ahead of Tuesday’s junket to Bethel Christian Academy.

Halifax, now 0-3 this season, travels to Henderson on Thursday for a matchup with Kerr-Vance Academy.
