Yellow Jackets down Wildcats in weekend clash

Roanoke Rapids rallied from an opening-set surprise on Saturday to level Big East 2A/3A rival Bunn, 3-1, in first-round play of the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A playoffs.

The triumph, earned in 14-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 fashion, earned the Jackets (13-5) a 6 p.m. reservation today at high-powered Camden County, which has dropped just one set this fall. Bunn finished the 2021 season with a 12-6 record.

KIPP, Weldon, Southeast Collegiate stumble

A trio of Tar Roanoke outfits failed to find their footing on Saturday as the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1A playoffs got underway.

KIPP Pride (14-5) fell to Roxboro Community in straight sets, as did Weldon (12-5) in its matchup with Eno River Academy.

Southeast Collegiate Prep Academy (9-8) also struggled, tumbling in three sets to the East Region’s No. 8-seed, Falls Lake.
