Such was the case on Friday for Halifax Academy, which throttled Cape Fear Christian Academy, 61-20, to open the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1A women’s basketball tournament.

The Vikings now stand 10-4 overall this season.

Senior forward Emerson Poole dominated the runout victory, scoring 27 points to pair with six rebounds and four steals.

Additionally, the Coastal Conference Player of the Year eclipsed the 2,000-point career scoring mark.

Tara Simmons also played well for the hosts, finishing with 12 points, eight boards and two steals, while Macie Price netted eight points on 3 of 3 shooting to go with six rebounds.

Senior point guard Ashton Garner pieced together a line of six points, three rebounds and six assists.

Ashlyn Cooke and Victoria Wilson rounded out the winning ledger with five and three points, respectively.

Halifax Academy returns to the office on Monday as the host of Greenfield (6-5), while CFCA finished its 2020-2021 campaign with a 4-14 mark.
