Wyatt Beaver of Roanoke Rapids, shown here during a practice session for the N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A state championship, helped the Yellow Jackets to a Northern Carolina 1A/2A league title this spring. The freshman was one of four Buzz City players to earn All-Conference acclaim.

Earlier this week, Roanoke Rapids High School placed an official button on a wildly successful 2020-2021 prep athletics calendar, honoring its best and brightest performers across the fall, winter and spring seasons.

Over our next three print editions, The Herald will publish the names of the awards winners, beginning with the fall slate — when the Yellow Jackets collected Northern Carolina 1A/2A titles in women’s cross country, football, men’s golf, men’s soccer and women’s tennis.
